Stain & Cleanability Testing

Make sure your fabric won't "ugly" out before it wears out!

Stain & Cleanability Testing with Applied Lab

Applied Lab offers an extensive list of stains to select from for Stain & Cleanability testing, so you can ensure your fabrics will hold up to the rigors of the environment and the cleaning agents used in those environments. We also measure repellency to water, oil, and other liquids and can help you understand how your fabrics hold up to repeated cleanings.

Stain & Cleanability Testing Available

Applied Lab is redefining how to evaluate stain resistance and cleanability.

How will the fabric you are specifying hold up to the stains it will face after installation?  Find out with accredited stain and cleanability testing catered to the exact environment.  With customized testing that addresses the stains most commonly faced, the time before housekeeping can clean a stain, the cleaners and methods used to clean the stains, and the overall performance of a material, you’ll know just what to expect.

Note: List is not meant to be exhaustive. If you are looking for a stain not on this list, just let us know.

Durability to Cleaners

Evaluates the visual and physical effect of repeated exposure to cleaners on a woven or coated material.

Call for Lead Time & Requirements

Stain Resistance

ASTM D1308 / CFFA 141

Determines the resistance of a fabric to staining when subjected to common household stains and cleaning agents.

Lead time: 3-5 days
Yardage required: 8" x 8" per stain

Denim Dye Transfer

Ford BN 112-09

Determines the susceptibility of materials to dye ingress (transfer of dye, particularly from denim to the surface of a material) through rubbing. May also evaluate the ability to remove the dye from the material through cleaning.

Lead time: 3-5 days
Yardage required: 12" x 12"

Colorfastness to Bleach

AATCC 107 (modified) / AATCC 61 (5a)

Determines the effect of bleach on fabrics in regards to the ability to resist color change or dye transfer to adjacent fabrics.

Lead time: 3-5 days
Yardage required: 12" x 12"

Colorfastness to Laundering

AATCC 61

Determines the ability of a fabric to resist color change or transfer its color to adjacent fabrics under accelerated laundering conditions.

Lead time: 5-7 days
Yardage required: 12" x 12"

Colorfastness to Dry Cleaning

AATCC 132

Determines the ability of a fabric to resist color change or transfer its color to adjacent fabrics when subjected to three commercial dry cleanings.

Lead time: 5-7 days
Yardage required: 12" x 12"

Oily Stain Release

AATCC 130 (Modified)

Measures the ability of fabrics to release oily stains during home laundering.

Lead time: 5-7 days
Yardage required: 1 yard x full width

Dimensional Change to Laundering

AATCC 96

Determines the dimensional change of fabrics and garments when subjected to commercial or home laundering procedures.

Lead time: 5 days (based on 5 cycles)
Yardage required: 1 yard x full width

Dimensional Change to Dry Cleaning

AATCC 158

Determines the dimensional change of fabrics and garments that are dry cleaned in perchloroethylene.

Lead time: 5-7 days
Yardage required: 1 yard x full width

Repellency to Oil

ATCC 118

This method is used to detect the presence of a fluorochemical finish, or other compounds capable of imparting a low energy surface on all types of fabrics. This is done by evaluating the fabric’s resistance to wetting by a selected series of liquid hydrocarbons.

Lead time: 5-7 days
Yardage required: 1 yard x full width

Repellency to Water

AATCC 22

This method measures the resistance of fabrics to wetting by water. This is suitable for measuring the water repellent efficiency of finishes applied to fabrics.

Lead time: 3-5 days
Yardage required: 12" x full width

Repellency to Water/Alcohol

AATCC 193

Determines the repellency of a fabric by subjecting it to a series of water : alcohol solutions with different surface tensions.

Lead time: 3-5 days
Yardage required: 12" x full width
