Developmental Testing

Take advantage of the benefits of developmental testing and see how we can assist with solutions utilizing shorter lead times and lower costs to expedite your developmental needs.

Why Developmental Testing?

Developmental Testing Program offers a series of test protocols compiled to evaluate specific required performance characteristics of textiles as early in the developmental phase as possible while mitigating the extensive time, yardage and monetary requirements of Certified Testing before products are finalized. Developmental testing is intended to provide test results in situations that the formalities and costs of accredited testing do not allow for. Therefore, developmental “pre-testing” will not result in an Accredited Certificate but will provide results on a pass or fail basis on a Performance Evaluation Report.

Developmental Vs. Certified Testing

Certified Testing – Accredited Certificate

Certified Testing is expensive but is extremely important and provides companies protection from the risks of field failures, litigation, and negative exposure by resting on the Accredited Certificate provided by Applied Textiles’ A2LA-accredited test results.

Certified Testing separates companies from non-certified competitors by assuring that their products will perform to the standards for the intended use of the textiles.

Developmental Testing Program – Performance Evaluation Report

Developmental Testing is designed to measure textile performance as products are being evaluated for development.

Developmental Testing provides a Performance Evaluation Report that does not require the same “gravitas” as an Accredited Test Certificate thus reducing costs.

Developmental Testing requires fewer samples to provide base results and does not require the amount of time or raw materials as a Certified Test, which greatly lowers overall costs.

Developmental Testing Performance Evaluation Reports provide the ability to ‘screen’ textiles during preliminary development to address its applicability for an intended use.

Benefits

• Reduced testing cost for developmental protocol
• Smaller yardage requirements
• Shortened lead times
• Performance Evaluation Report of developmental results
Yardage Requirements

Yardage Requirements

Developmental Testing does not have the same yardage requirements as Certified Testing. By utilizing Applied Lab’s Developmental Testing Program, a few samples can be cut from whatever yardage is available to provide results.

Lead Times

While adhering to conditioning requirements is always our standard, the Performance Evaluation Report allows for the opportunity to cut and test fabrics the “same day” as requested by our clients.

Cost Differences

While Certified Testing is extremely important and required as part of the A.C.T. labeling guidelines for textiles, there is a strong need for the “pre-testing” of fabrics in the early developmental phase.

Reporting

Developmental Testing Program is designed to allow for testing in situations that do not allow for the formalities of accredited testing. Therefore, developmental “pre-testing” will not result in the issuance of an Accredited Certificate. Rather, a Performance Evaluation Report that delivers test results on a pass or fail basis is provided.
